The Very Short International Film Festival (Tres Court in French) is an international event that span across 20 countries and 80 cities, with a very unique concept of screening “at the same time everywhere”. It showcases the best of the international audiovisual creation through less than 3 minutes films. The festival's competition generates both international and local movie content, offering a showcase of home-grown talents.
BREATHE is all about life, choice, self-expression and truth. As part of the Very Short International Film Festival, BREATHE invites you to express your creativity. Just create a three-minute (maximum length) very short film on any of the four youth health issues described below and you stand to win the top prize of $3,000 cash for the BREATHE category.

Tobacco use
Your very short film should focus on the benefits of being tobacco-free and must include one or more of the following messages:
- 'Better looks without lighting up’
- ‘Better fitness without lighting up’
- ‘Better spending power without lighting up’
- ‘Better environment without lighting up’
You can also use your very short film to ‘edutain’ youth on how they can reject offers of tobacco.
Alcohol use
Your very short film should include one or more of the following messages on alcohol use:
- Binge drinking starts at having more than 3 alcoholic drinks on one occasion for women or more than 4 for men. But, no level of drinking can be guaranteed as completely safe or without risks.
- Research shows that drinking during youth can harm physical and brain development especially as the brain is still developing until the age of about 24. Alcohol consumption during youth can bring about learning difficulties, memory and social developmental problems as well as affect muscle growth and build-up.
You can use your very short film to let youth know how to drink responsibly, if they choose to drink at all. Or simply show them how one can relax and have fun without having any alcohol!
Sexuality
Your very short film should focus on challenging youth perceptions on casual and premarital sex and provide one or more of the following tips to protect against consequences:
- Abstain from casual sex and instead, achieve intimacy without sex
- Be faithful to one partner who in turn is also faithful to you
- Use a condom correctly every time you engage in sex
Mental Wellness
Your very short film should inspire youth to improve their mental wellbeing and may include one or more of the following tips:
- Believe in and value yourself
- Think positive
- See things from different perspectives
- Have good social support e.g. friends and family
