“When I saw my dad cry, I knew I had to turn my life around.”
As a student, your teachers expect you to perform well in school. But things were quite different for Jiten. He had more expectations in school and at home.
The weight on his shoulders
Having parents who are both teachers, he was under a lot of pressure to perform academically well since young. However, Jiten was not serious in his studies and did not do well in PSLE. His score of 185 points only qualified him for the Normal Academic stream in secondary school.
New beginnings
Despite his fall, Jiten picked himself up quickly and studied hard. He got promoted to the Express stream in Secondary 2 and even took up a leadership role as a student councillor.
Turning obstacles into opportunities
Most of his classmates did well for the Secondary 4 Prelims and could go to a JC of their choice. However, Jiten was called to the Principal’s office due to his poor performance. Faced with pressure from his parents and friends, Jiten felt that he was wasting his time in school.
However, when Jiten saw his father cry over his poor results, he realised that he could do much better.
Shining bright
With his father’s love and concern, Jiten was motivated to study hard for his O-level examination. He even engaged a tutor on his own! With the support and encouragement from his parents, Principal and teachers, Jiten scored 11 points and did well in his finals to enrol in Singapore Polytechnic.
Everyone falls but not everyone gets up. Despite all the obstacles, Jiten was able to pick himself up and get back on track quickly.
“As long as we are willing to succeed, nothing will stop us.”
